Impact on the Organization

It is well known that many changes in organizations fail, fall far short of their expectations, or require a lot more time and effort than what was contemplated…or a combination of these. Why is this, given all the attention given to managing the changes and resources made available? Unfortunately, in most situations, there is insufficient thought and effort given to the “transition,” the emotional process that people go through to come to terms with the new situation of the “end state.” This module gives the participants the insight, skills, and tools required to lead a transition, starting from an analysis of the situation all the way through to successful implementation.

Learning Objectives

  • Build on your current change management skills.
  • Understand the connection between “transition” and “change” and why focusing on transition is so important.
  • Learn why transitions are so difficult for most people and what can be done to help them.
  • Learn what a leader can do to lead and facilitate transitions for those most directly affected by the changes.
  • Prepare a plan for necessary transitions in the workplace.
  • Understand resistance to change, and master proven ways to handle it.
  • Learn a systematic framework for driving change and managing change-related issues, and use it to improve productivity, satisfaction, and professional development.

Program Description

This module helps participants understand why “transitions” are often the major reason why “change” is so difficult and time consuming. The module identifies the “phases” of transitions and what leaders need to focus on in each phase to help those directly affected by the change. Special emphasis is given to the difficulties of “letting go” of the old ways of doing things and why it is so important to do so. Participants learn a methodology and how to use a diagnostic tool for assessing these difficulties and addressing them. Participants also learn how to help the staff learn and adjust to the new methods and procedures. Participants practice these methods for leading a transition with case examples as well with a change effort in their own organization.
