Today, virtually every employee must be a facilitator, teacher, and trainer. In these roles, employees must know how to present ideas clearly, logically, and persuasively. Whether they are presenting or facilitating in formal or informal contexts, they must know how to define their goals, assess their audiences, plan effective messages, and deliver those messages in ways people can understand and act upon. When training colleagues and subordinates, they must know how to teach so that people will learn. If they have these skills, they can make training more productive and rapid – and ensure that it achieves better bottom line results.

Participants will review the key differences between traditional and “adult” learning, as well as different learning modes, processes, and environments. They will consider room setup and preparation, and master proven techniques for getting students to participate – and to apply what they are learning. Participants will be coached through handling difficult classroom situations, such as arguments between students. They will discuss when to use each type of visual aid and multimedia, and which media work best with each type of group. Several types of presentations will be introduced, and participants will practice each presentation format. Drawing on the tools and techniques they have learned, participants will each give sample presentations, and receive feedback from their colleagues. At the end of class, participants will receive tools and resources they can use to refresh their memory and master even more techniques in the future.
