Impact on the Organization
One of the most difficult tasks organizations face is to transition their “star” contributors into “managers of stars.” It’s equally challenging for the individuals who are becoming managers, and must now master (and be evaluated on) an entirely different set of skills. Individuals who do not receive support as they move into management often fail – and they often leave the business, taking their valued contributions with them. Like other skills, the transition to management can be taught – increasing the likelihood of individual success, improving overall business productivity, and reducing turnover.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the key differences between leadership and management
- Understand your new role as a manager
- Identify the specific skills you will need to succeed as a manager
- Clearly define the changes and challenges that need to be met in the organization or department you are now responsible for
Program Description
This highly interactive module challenges participants to understand, “own,” and succeed in their new roles as managers. It addresses questions such as: What is different for me now that I’m a manager? How have my relationships changed? How can I avoid the classic mistakes and pitfalls new managers make? How can I act as a buffer/support system for my employees? Am I expected to be a manager, leader, or both – and what’s the difference between the two? Participants will leave this workshop with a clear understanding of how their roles have changed — and the specific skills, techniques, and tools they now need to succeed.
