Impact on the Organization

Today’s business environment requires companies to adopt an effective problem solving strategy to make their business run more effectively and provide a foundation for continuous improvement.  Developed within Ford Motor Company in the 1980s, 8D provides an eight step process that engages the power of a team to understand, resolve, and prevent the same or similar problem from occurring in the future.  The result leads to improved operations and company profitability.

This course teaches a structured problem solving methodology based on the Ford 8D process model.  The instructor assigns small groups with the process and/or product knowledge, and skill in the required technical disciplines, to solve a company problem and implement corrective actions.  The group begins with a team building process, and then develops an operational defintion of the problem using various tools and techniques.  Participants learn the importance of finding the root cause to effectively solve the problem, and  move through the remaining 8 steps to problem completiom.  Various 8D forms are evaluated.  Participants should have a knowledge of SPC.
